On 29th January, 2020 Nigerians in Diaspora Organization China (NiDO China) facilitated the request for quick evacuation of Nigerians in Wuhan addressed to the Nigerian Ambassador to China, Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda which also copied the Chairman, Nigerian in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM)

On behalf of Nigerians in Diaspora Organization China (NiDO China), we will like to update you about the timeline of event and efforts to support our Nigerian Brothers and Sisters in Wuhan since the outbreak of the novel Corona virus 2019 (COVID-19).

 On 29th January, 2020 Nigerians in Diaspora Organization China (NiDO China) facilitated the request for quick evacuation of Nigerians in Wuhan addressed to the Nigerian Ambassador to China, Ambassador Baba Ahmad Jidda which also copied the Chairman, Nigerian in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM), Hon. Abike Erewa Dabiri.

 On 2nd February, 2020 the Chairman NiDCOM, reached out and asked about the welfare of Nigerians in China. NiDO China suggested financial support for Nigerians in Wuhan to cater for their needs pending evacuation.

 On 3rd February, 2020 a letter of request for financial support by Nigerians in Wuhan was further forwarded by NiDO China to the Nigerian Embassy and NiDCOM.

 On 5th February 2020 another letter from Nigerians in Wuhan was further forwarded by NiDO China addressed to the Ambassador of the Embassy of Nigeria in China which copied Chairman, NiDCOM and NiDO China stating that a larger percentage of Nigerians in Wuhan still maintain their stand on being evacuated as the situation at hand is quite worrisome and their lives are at stake.

On 6th February 2020 the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to the People’s Republic of China, H.E. Baba Ahmad Jidda made a personal donation of 20,000 RMB to the Nigerian Students and other Nigerians currently living in Wuhan and Shiyan to assist them in addressing some urgent requirements.  He also reassured all Nigerians living in China that the Embassy is communicating with relevant authorities in Nigeria to address their concerns in the midst of the current outbreak of Corona virus in the country. His Excellency Ambassador Jidda showed his confidence in the capacity of the Government of the People’s Republic of China in ameliorating the menace of the Corona virus expeditiously.

On 7th February 2020, NiDO South Coordinator Mr. Festus Mbisiogu through NiDO China donated a sum of #360,000 in support of the welfare of Nigerians in Wuhan.

 

0n 24th February 2020 the Federal government of Nigeria provided financial support of the sum of 235,000 RMB to Nigerians in Wuhan who are at the epicenter of the outbreak and its environs which will be disbursed by the embassy through the leadership of the Nigerian Students in Wuhan.

Till date, no Nigerian has been reported infected with the novel corona virus.

Meanwhile, NiDO China wants to seize this opportunity to continue to encourage Nigerians in China to continue to stay safe and to take necessary precautions as advised by the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria as well as the Government of the People’s Republic of China.

We will also like to commend the Chinese government for their support and effort to curtail the spread of the novel coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19). We are confident the deadly virus will be eliminated completely soon.
